good, silo Episode 9 of Season 2 had a lot to unpack.
Things within both silos have now reached a boiling point, with Juliet (Rebecca Ferguson) preparing to head back outside after Solo’s (Steve Zahn) revelations, and things turning into a full-blown riot in her home silo. It’s leaning towards. But while it’s all taking place, newly promoted Shadow IT chief Lucas Kyle (Avi Nash) is trying to solve a mystery of his own.
And by the end of episode 9, it seems like he’s finally found some answers.
“Silo” Season 2, Episode 2: What does Bernard’s book about the Order say?
What happens to Lucas at the end of episode 9?
Since his promotion to the Shadow One, Lucas has been trying to decipher the codes left behind by former IT head Salvador Quinn. It’s the same code that Judge Meadows (Tanya Moody) cracked 25 years ago. By episode 9, he has addressed it and reveals the following message (part of which is scrawled in his notebook):
“…A reason to be cursed. If you don’t believe me, go to the bottom of the silo and find the tunnel. There you will find confirmation.”
Afterwards, a shaken Lucas says that the “survival of the silo” depends on finding the mayor. But when the mayor tells him not to disturb him until that night, he takes matters into his own hands and heads to the bottom of the silo. However, when he finds the tunnel mentioned in the note, he suddenly hears a robotic voice calling his name.
“Only three people reached this door before you,” the voice says. “Salvador Quinn, Mary Meadows, and George Wilkins. I have not spoken to Wilkins. Both Quinn and Meadows were given the same instructions you are about to receive. If you If you tell anyone about the conversation or what you saw here, we’ll say, ‘We’re going to have no choice but to trigger the safeguard, do you know what the safeguard is, Mr. Kyle? ”

Lucas’ nervous reaction? “i will do it.”
Who is the voice speaking to Lucas?
Simply put, I don’t know. But we can make some guesses. Lucas’ discussion with Bernard (Tim Robbins) earlier in the episode reveals that there are multiple silos. 51 to be exact. The person talking to Lucas appears to have some sort of senior authority, given that he was giving “instructions” to Silo 18’s IT director. Is it possible that the person who spoke to Lucas is the head of IT in another department, perhaps with authority over all the other silos?
Another option is that the voice may not be human at all. It sounds faintly robotic, so there’s always a chance it belongs to some kind of omnipotent artificial intelligence controlling all the silos.
What are the safeguards?
If the voice mentions a “safety net,” it’s clearly a threat. If Lucas told someone what he had seen and heard, they would have “no choice but to start.” Clearly, the safety equipment was not designed to keep the occupants of Silo 18 safe. So what exactly is it?
Again, we don’t know for sure yet. Obviously, that was in Quinn’s code, and the phrase “…abominable reason” in Lucas’ notes seems creepy. Equally creepy is the fact that Quinn, a former IT department head, felt the need to hide the meaning of the code, and that what Judge Meadows learned when she cracked it led her to drink. It’s the fact that I was driven.
In short, no matter what the security measures are, the occupants of Silo 18 feel helpless and fearful. Perhaps this is a safety measure meant to protect the voice’s owner and other silos in case Silo 18 feels like it’s starting to get out of control?
