The two-week week at Deadspin was a much better pan-out than the first week. But before it reaches baseball, there are still some loose ends to be tied down to trying to secure a winning hockey and basketball season.
Tonight’s Over/Under could probably be considered the main event of all professional sports. At least if you’re a Boston Bruins fan.
That’s because it involves a showdown between former teammates who share the distinction of being one of the top goalkeeper duos in recent history. They also created one of the best signature tandem celebrations.
Jeremy Swayman and Linas Wulmark created the magic while being Boston goaltenders “1A” and “1B”. In one season, one team helped the organization set league records at most points.
The first meeting to see a pair of Netminders lockhorns happened on November 9th. This was an Ottawa 3-2 road victory, bringing victory to those below. The other two matchups featuring these older Northeast division rivals were either Swayman or Ullmark.

This rematch between the two is the most important head-to-head tilt of all time, given the current position of each club in postseason photography. The Senator is currently at a few points in the first wildcard playoff spot, while the Bruins have two points from the second and last slots, with three other Eastern Conference teams ahead.
Boston also had an important fire sale that he just saw the loss of Star Wart Blood Merchand, the last remaining figure from the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship team, along with Brandon Carlo, Charlie Coyle and others.
Despite these shocking subtractions, the Bruins have recently won consecutive victories over the Lightning and the Panthers (against its one eternal friend, Marchand) since the trade deadline. Swayman started out with these games and was great in both, but it’s his recent candid words that can lead him to believe that the best stretch of his season is still coming.
Swayman told ESPN’s Emily Kaplan After his shutout and tampa“We miss those guys so much. They have led Emily, who is Emily, but they will never be the same without them, but we have to continue their legacy, understand their next mentality and be proud of them.”
With that mindset, Swayman is a good bet to continue his recent strong play, despite not matching the usual high expectations he has been set for himself since arriving in the NHL four years ago. I trust that he will consistently approach his norm throughout the final weeks of the season.
Meanwhile, Ullmark continues his effective work in his first campaign as a senator. He may not be heading for another Vezina trophy as he did two years ago, but he still has a solid season from what he produced during his tenure as Bruin. He probably won’t be disappointed either of the other side of one of his best friends.
Moreover, Boston can’t hold off on attack in the short term, taking into account that he’s already second to second from the East with goals per game (2.71). All you need to do is focus on the attack that continues the throw in Ottawa.
For reasonable value, he chose to tack with a total of 5.5 half goals.
