“Celebrating Windrush, Challenging Myths” is a daily series of events with Nairobi Thompson, including films, music, conversations and poetry, and celebrates the achievements of the Windrush generation and its contribution to British culture and society. The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, from 11:45am to 1:45pm GST at Newcastle City Library (33 Newbridge Street West Newcastlea Contein, NE1 8AX, UK). Description: “Celebration, Challenging Myths of Windrush” is hosted by the Marginality Research Group, in collaboration with the Northeastern East Africa and the Caribbean Association (NEEA & CA) (NEEA & CA) for racial equity and justice in art and design (School of Design, Arts and Creative Industry at Northumbria University). The afternoon aims to celebrate the achievements of the Windrush generation and its important contributions to British culture and society in order to understand the Windrush scandal and the process of compensation. All of this is done through films, songs, talks and poetry. We are truly pleased that our featured artist will become the amazing Nairobi Thompson, currently resident of BBC Regional Poets from both the Windrush Foundation and the Equiano Society.
