Hispanic Caribbean strange womanConsuelo Martínez Reyes, focuses on the manifestation of lesbianism in the literary and cinematic history of the Hispanic Caribbean from the 1970s to the 2010s. It will be published Palgrave Macmillan in November 2025.
explanation: This book considers the obvious invisibility of lesbianism throughout the literary and cinematic history of the Hispanic Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic).
The book looks at how certain situations simultaneously hide, adjust and allow expressions of what is considered sexual “deviants.” It observes how alternative female sexuality was previously silent or expressed only on a symbolic level, and explores why lesbian characters have recently found public and open expressions in island literature and films.
Therefore, this book is intended to present the history of female characters who love women.
