WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to block messages from unknown numbers.
Instant messaging apps are a great way to communicate and stay in touch, but they can also be extremely annoying if you get added to a spam group or receive content advertising unwanted services.
There’s also the risk that your device could be exposed to malware and other cyber threats, but a solution may be on the way.
WhatsApp News Site WA Beta Information The company has now reportedly rolled out a new security update that gives Android devices the ability to block messages from unknown accounts.
The feature is said to be hidden in the “Advanced” section of settings within the “Privacy” menu. Simply toggle “Block messages from unknown accounts” to turn the feature on or off.

What would you do if you received an important email from a contact you don’t recognize?
This also happens on WhatsApp, as we often get other people’s numbers to get in touch first, and vice versa.
This new feature does not block all messages, Accounts that send a disproportionate number of messages in a short period of time.
The blocks will apparently be lifted once messaging slows to normal, but this seems counterproductive, although that could change once the final version is deployed and further testing is done.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the “Block messages from unknown accounts” feature is now available to some beta testers.
“The latest beta 2.24.20.16 update of WhatsApp for Android available on Google Play Store has revealed that WhatsApp is rolling out a security feature to block messages from unknown accounts.”
The service is expected to be rolled out to a wider range of users in the coming weeks.
