Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has sparked an important debate about the future of NATO and the risks associated with its current military strategy, following the chairman of the NATO military committee’s call to launch a pre-emptive strike against Russia.
“We need to reevaluate our position in NATO,” Lee argues. “Now. This idea of a pre-emptive strike against Russia… [bat […] Crazy. “
Lee’s post highlights growing concerns among some about the direction and impact of NATO’s evolving military policy.
In comments on the statement, he agreed that the United States “needs to wake up” and expressed support for another argument: “NATO should have ended in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union.”
we need to reassess our position with NATO

Mike Leigh slams NATO’s call for first strike
The concept of first strike, discussed by NATO Military Committee Chairman Adm. Rob Bauer, involves targeting Russian missile launchers before they can be used against NATO members.
“In case Russia attacks us, we are more capable of attacking the launcher inside Russia rather than waiting,” Bauer said, according to Bloomberg. “We need a precise combination of attacks to disable the systems used to attack us, and we need to attack them first.”
This strategy is a shift from a purely defensive posture to one that includes offensive capabilities to actively neutralize threats. Or, in parlance since the ill-fated Iraq war of 2003, a pre-emptive strike.
But this approach has drawn harsh criticism not only from Russian officials but also from within NATO members and their allies.
“In case Russia attacks us, it would be wiser to attack the launch pads in Russia rather than wait,” Bauer said, quoted by Bloomberg. “We need a combination of precision strikes to nullify it, and we have to strike first.”

Trump also criticizes NATO
Lee is not the first lawmaker to call for the United States to reconsider its position in NATO in the wake of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called for a similar reassessment, accusing the U.S. of being an untrustworthy partner who primarily leaves the United States to fund her own agenda.
Green said the United States “has been funding and pledging to defend NATO countries for decades, paying more than its fair share.” “
Anyone else agree? President-elect Donald Trump.
Trump has long criticized the alliance. Rather, the fact that the United States was the country primarily funding the organization, while other members were getting what amounted to a free ride.
A 2018 video shows President Trump criticizing the organization for being “completely controlled” by Russia, ironically due to its dependence on energy from Russia and Germany.

In this standoff, President Trump, speaking at a breakfast meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, asked why the United States would protect Germany when it is deeply involved in an energy deal with Russia. It was shown that he had doubts.
Will Trump do as Lee says and pull the US out of NATO?
