President Trump is having the Republican National Committee sue in North Carolina to block students from using their student IDs to vote in the presidential election.

Via: Democracy Docket:

The lawsuit was filed by the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the North Carolina Republican Party (NC GOP) challenging the North Carolina State Board of Elections’ (NCSBE) approval of a digital form of voter identification for students and staff at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill. The Republican plaintiffs argue that state law and the NCSBE’s own guidelines prohibit voters from using images of their photo IDs on their mobile devices when casting their ballot at the polls.

North Carolina law limits the types of photo ID acceptable for voting, and the complaint alleges that any approved ID must be a “physical, tangible item that a person can hold and inspect.” According to the complaint, the NCSBE acted beyond its authority and ignored state law by approving the UNC Digital ID (known as the UNC Mobile One Card) because it is not a physical card but exists on a computer system. The plaintiffs further allege that the NCSBE’s expansion of photo ID options could “allow hundreds or thousands of ineligible voters to vote in future elections and beyond.” The RNC and NCGOP are asking the court to bar the use of the UNC Digital ID in the November 5, 2024 general election and to permanently enjoin the NCSBE from allowing non-physical forms of ID.

University of North Carolina is a breeding ground for Kamala Harris Voting in key battleground states.

With Harris’ campaign growing in popularity, low turnout and Trump’s dream of winning on the strength of his MAGA base alone coming true, with voters seemingly willing and ready to cast ballots for Harris, the Republican plan has shifted to blocking voters who would likely vote for Harris in battleground states from voting.

If digital student IDs are considered an accepted form of identification in North Carolina, Trump Arguments involving the illusion that hundreds of thousands of ineligible voters will cast ballots are irrelevant.

These lawsuits will come in battleground states because Donald Trump is not attracting new voters and the University of North Carolina students are winning. Harris won the state. The former president will claim North Carolina was stolen from him.
