January, Apple He agreed to pay $95 million and agreed to pay $95 million to claim that his voice assistant Siri had listened to the private conversation. Currently, affected users are less than 8 weeks to wager their bills on a slice of cash.
Lopezv Apple Inc. The lawsuit was filed in December, accusing Apple of recording private conversations as a result of unintended SIRI activation and sharing the data with third parties. The two plaintiffs alleged that after having a personal conversation about a particular brand, the related ads served them, while the other ads received medical ads after a private discussion with a doctor.
This is not the first time Siri has been accused of eavesdropping. The whistleblower spoke Guardian About that in 2019, external contractors assessing the effectiveness of Siri were able to listen to everything from criminal transactions to sexual encounters.
Apple immediately ceases to use these third parties and in resolving this case, Apple here denis all fraudulent behavior. An Apple spokesperson told Wired in January that “SIRI data has never been used to build a marketing profile and has never been sold to anyone for any purpose.”
That said, Apple clearly still hopes that the lawsuit will go away, and under the settlement, owners or buyers of Siri-enabled devices who have experienced unintended SIRI activation during private conversations could be eligible for a payment of up to $100. Each person can file a claim of up to $20 per device for up to five devices.
The list of eligible devices includes iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, iMac, HomePod, Apple TV, and iPod Touch, but you must purchase and use the device between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2024. The lawsuit is limited to US owners.
How to assert
If you believe you qualify for a payment, you must file a claim by July 2, 2025. Some people have received emails or postcards informing them of their eligibility, along with their billing identification code. If you do so, use this when applying. Otherwise, go to the Webiste case website and File a claim page.
Start by choosing “New Claim.” You must provide either your name and address, the email address associated with your Apple ID, and proof of purchase, or the serial number and model name of each device you are requesting.
You must experience at least one unintended SIRI activation during the window of the specified time and declare that at least one incident occurred during a conversation intended to be “private or confidential.”
It is worth noting that the payment per SIRI device is $20, but the amount that a claimant actually receives may be less depending on the number of valid claims filed. A final approval hearing to determine the final amount will take place on August 1, 2025, and the court will determine whether the claim is “fair, reasonable and appropriate.”
