In a major development, US President Donald Trump announced on April 9 a 90-day “suspension” on mutual tariffs on everyone except China.
“Based on the lack of respect China has shown to the global market, I am now raising the tariffs charged to China by the United States to 125%.
“On the contrary, and based on the fact that over 75 countries are calling US representatives, including the Department of Commerce, Treasury and USTR, we will negotiate solutions for subjects being discussed in relation to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation and non-profit tariffs. Please note that this issue also saw a 90-day suspension and a significant drop in mutual tariffs during this period,” his post read.
