Team Vitality knocked out Team Spirit on three straight maps and won the grand final of the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice event in Poland on Sunday.
Vitality won the top prize of $460,000 and was revised upwards from $400,000 over the weekend. Spirit pocketed $216,000 as runner-up.
Vitality opened the grand final with a 13-6 and 13-5 victory in Dust II and Nuclear, leading 11-4 at Mirage before strolling around to determine the 13-11 victory.
France’s Matthew “Zywoo” Herbaut led the winner by a difference of 67 kills and a kill death of plus 38. Russian Danil “Donk” Krishkovetz posted 40 kills, but no one had a plus KD differential in the Spirit Squad.
Group play at the Million Dollar Counter Strike: Global Offensive event featured 16 teams split into two double elimination brackets. The winners of the two group phases made their way straight to the playoff semifinals. The runner-ups in the two group phases moved to the quarter-finals as high seeds. And the two third-placed teams created the quarterfinals as low seeds.
The playoffs were single elimination, with best of three matches in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Sunday’s Grand Final was the only use of five best formats in the competition.
