Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Link GC team has been the first in TGL history to land two Eagles in the same round, and thus there was no answer to Bay Golf Club’s Minwoolly.
Woods skipped the event for the first time this season, but his Jupiter team has something to do over the next two weeks to make the playoffs next month. A 6-3 victory in a game that was clinched after 13 holes at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Woods, who was on the scene on Tuesday, did not take part in his PGA Tour Tour season debut after the death of his mother, Kurchida Woods, at 80 earlier this month.
Kevin Kissner, Tom Kim and Max Homa represent Jupiter Link (1-3-1), while Bay (4-0) already qualified for the playoffs, but Lee, Wyndham Clarke and Shane – Representatived by Laurie.
“Obviously, what you want to do is give us an opportunity to come here, get off to a good start, get into the playoffs and win this thing,” Laurie said. “But we were here tonight, we really wanted to win and keep winning.
“I want to finish as high as possible to get the best seeds possible. I thought I did a great job tonight.”
Lee, dubbed “Dr chip-inski,” went from just under 25 feet in the sixth hole to 2-1 from just 25 feet below, becoming the first golfer in TGL history to drain two chips in a single season.
After two holes, Lee had the opportunity to win another hole with the tip, but the ball hit the hole and pops out. His first effort made him the first TGL player with two green hole-outs.
Jupiter Link tested Lee before his next approach shot, throwing a hammer to double the point in the hole.
Following the timeout, Lee’s great shot led to Bay throwing a hammer, creating a hole worth three points.
Laurie delivered a 6-foot Eagle Putt and brought Bay to 5-1 for a singles match. This was one of the first two eagles in TGL history.
Lee’s success ended with an opening singles match, with Kim drilling a hole when Bay declined the hammer.
Kissner defeats Laurie, giving Jupiter Link a potentially valuable point that could be useful if the tiebreaker decides the league’s final playoff spot.
Clark then scored his final hole against Homa, who had been competing for the first time since the opening match.
Bay, Lagc and Atlanta Drive GC have already secured playoff spots.
The remaining playoff berths will be sent to Boston Common Golf, one of the New York golf clubs, or to Jupiter Link, who earned two points in the season.
“If that’s a must-see, you need to win,” Homa said of next week’s Jupiter Links match against Atlanta Drive. “It was fun to see at least get out here and dig a hole in a putt and make a birdie and do good things there.
“I’m tired of taking the L, but at the same time, at least at the end of my life, I know that these guys are all winning under their belts. We’ll be playing golf next week. I’ll take another shot with it.”
