According to reports, if elected US president, Trump said he would establish a Government Efficiency Commission, proposed by billionaire Elon Musk, with Musk serving as its chairman.
President Trump said he plans to drastically cut regulations, boost energy production, introduce cryptocurrency, and drastically cut government spending and corporate taxes on U.S.-based production companies.
“We need to do it. We can’t continue like this,” Trump said, emphasizing the need for the commission.
The Government Efficiency Commission’s main role is to conduct a thorough financial and performance audit of the entire federal government. Trump claimed the commission would recommend “radical reforms” and develop a plan within six months to eliminate fraud and improper payments, which would save “trillions of dollars.”
In his speech, President Trump emphasized that fraud and improper payments are estimated to cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars in 2022. He also announced his intention to cut 10 government regulations for every new regulation he introduces. Regarding government fiscal inefficiency, President Trump said, “Fraud and improper payments alone are estimated to cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars.” Elon Musk accepted the role of leading the committee and announced his determination on the social media platform X.
“If given the opportunity, I would like to serve America. No pay, no title, no recognition needed,” Musk wrote to X.
Musk has been a prominent supporter of Trump and has used social media to promote the president, and the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has become an increasingly vocal supporter of Trump’s return to the White House.
