Just over a month after combining the well-known deals, Calgary attacked and hosted Philadelphia Flyers Square on Tuesday.
Philadelphia is 4-0-1 in the final five games as the team began to integrate Andrei Kuzmenko and Jacob Pelletier into the lineup. They came to the Flyers on January 30th in exchange for Morgan Frost and Joel Farrabee.
Calgary has been 3-5-2 since his contract and has yet to score more than three goals in any of these 10 games. Flame has become particularly quiet offensively during his current 0-2-1 stretch, scoring only once on the last three outings.
“We’ll experience these stretches during our season in the Rats,” Calgary coach Ryan Haska said after Sunday’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. “We are offensively one now, but that changes as long as the work and competition are still there.
Nazem Kadri scored the only goal for the Flames, 1-2-1 on the current six-game road trip, ending at stops in Philadelphia and Dallas.
“We fought to the end,” Kadri said. “…I want to get two points, but I feel like there should be two points.”
Philadelphia scored two points in their final game. In a memorable 2-1 shootout victory in Winnipeg, Ivan Fedetov made 29 saves before halting all three jet attempts in the shootout.
Matvei Michkov’s clever shootout Tally proved to be the Flyers’ decisive goal, but Jamie Drysdale also scored a regulatory goal.
“(Fedotov) was playing against one of the league or the best goalkeeper of probably (Connor Helebuick),” Philadelphia coach John Torrella said. “I thought everyone contributed.”
The Flyers are currently returning for a seven-game homestand, including challenging contests with Winnipeg, Tampa Bay and Carolina.
But first, it’s a match between Frost and Farabee. They have not been very successful with flames individually or as a team since coming to the deal for four players.
“At this point, it’s obviously sad to have you left the teammate you were with… but at the same time, I think we both need a fresh start anyway,” Frost said shortly after the deal. “We’re hunting, hopefully we can come and give our team a boost.”
That plan hasn’t come to his point. Frost has two goals and assists, minus 4 in 10 games against Calgary, but Farrabee is minus 3 and has only registered one goal without assists.
Meanwhile, Kuzumenko has goals, two assists and a minus four in five games against Philadelphia, while Peretier has one assist in four contests with the Flyers.
Kuzumenko in particular is an interesting piece for Philadelphia. They need his attacks – both his score and his playmaking – but they may also treat him again before the deadline for the trade, if the opportunity presents itself.
“When we go through this, we act accordingly. When we see this, the organization acts accordingly,” Tortorera first said of Kuzumenko’s mission in orange and black. “It’s a bit of an audition, what are you, will you help us?
