Celebration time

The skills of the world’s most exciting T20 batsmen and bowlers will be on display at cricket stadiums across the region. Caribbean Premier League (CPL) The tournament (August 29th to October 6th) is “the biggest festival in the sports world.”

For a change of pace, Campechada (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) — Inspired by renowned playwright Victoria Espinosa, the festival is organized by the Puerto Rican Cultural Institute in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and celebrates local theater, painting, music, dance and literature.

Indigenous communities around the world are modeling sustainable living in harmony with nature. And throughout September, indigenous communities in Guyana Native American/American Indian Heritage Month It offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the history and traditions of the indigenous people of the Land of Many Waters.

This is one of the last opportunities to enjoy the Carnival frenzy on mainland North America. West Indies Day Parade (September 2nd) kicks off with Jauvert, bringing up to 3 million people to the dance floor and runway in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, so if you’re still in the mood for carnival, don’t miss it. Miami Carnival next month (October 11th to 13th).

Up north, literature lovers won’t want to miss out on the works of their favorite authors. Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival (September 5th to 8th) Brooklyn Book Festival (September 22nd to 30th).

From the city to the sea…! In St. Lucia Dive Fest (September 15-21) is a celebration and conservation of the island’s natural world. Events include hunting for invasive lionfish (and a lionfish cooking contest!), land and water cleanups, and underwater photography competitions. World Creole Music Festival (October 25th to 27th).

With the CPL semi-finals and finals as backdrop, Cricket Carnival Guyana (September 19-October 6) will feature a variety of events, from dynamic concerts to delicious cuisine.

Tobago’s iconic Signal Hill Alumni Choir celebrates 40th anniversary 2064: A Musical OdysseyExhibitions, school outreach and dynamic performances will take place across Trinidad and Tobago (September 21-October 6).

In Toronto, Caribbean Tales International Film Festival (September 5-15) and Grenada 1261 Film Festival (October 24-27) promises to bring you memorable Caribbean films that inspire, entertain, provoke critical thinking and promote support for talented filmmakers.

Meanwhile, the sensational event celebrating diversity, equality, queerness and queer allyship Curacao Pride (September 27th – October 6th).

In Antigua, the historic Nelson’s Dockyard Francis Nunez Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament and Seafood Festival (September 27-28). Enjoy fresh fish from returning boats, a variety of delicious seafood dishes, and fabulous live music and entertainment.

October brings non-stop action to Tobago. Tobago International Cycling Classic (October 1st to 6th) Tobago Blue Food Festival (October 20), and Tobago Carnival (October 25th to 27th).

Surinamese Maroon Heritage Day (October 10) commemorates the victory of the Maroons over the Dutch in 1760. With a distinct cultural identity, the Maroons make up around 20% of Suriname’s population. Their cuisine and rich traditions are at the heart of this traditional celebration.

of COCO Dance Festival The festival, held in Trinidad (12-13 October), brings together some of the region’s most innovative and respected dancers and choreographers. This year, it will feature the world-renowned Garth Fagan Dance, founded and directed by Jamaican choreographer Fagan. The Lion King, There are many other works in the lineup. Why not continue your love of dance? Dance Grenada (October 17-21) will feature performances, workshops, panel discussions, and more.

Appetizing Barbados National Triathlon Championships (October 20th), Barbados Food and Rum Festival (October 24-27) and Barbados Rum Experience (October 28th – November 2nd). Visitors are sure to leave the island full of energy!

In Trinidad and Tobago, Animae Caribbean Festival (October 30-November 2) will bring together leading talent from Dreamworks, Pixar, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and more, along with established and emerging animators from the Caribbean region, for screenings, networking, training and workshops.

As the October sun sets, Hindus and non-Hindus DiwaliA Hindu lunar festival of lights, special Indian delicacies are served across Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and Jamaica, participants dress up in traditional Indian attire and henna patterns, and cultural programs entertain and enlighten. Deyas (small lamps) symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and rangoli (colored rice) patterns representing happiness and positivity are placed around homes and community spaces.
