Carl Gustav JungJung, the founder of analytical psychology and explorer of the collective unconscious, was born in the village of Kesswil, Thurgau, Switzerland, on July 26, 1875. Above is a fascinating 39-minute interview with Jung conducted by John Freeman for the BBC. Face to faceThe show was filmed at Jung’s home in Küssnacht on Lake Zurich and aired on October 22, 1959, when Jung was 84 years old. Jung discusses a variety of subjects, including his childhood and education, his relationship with Sigmund Freud, and his views on death, religion and the future of humanity. At one point, Freeman asks Jung if he believes in God, and Jung seems hesitant. “That’s a hard answer,” he says. “I know. I don’t have to believe in it. I know.”
