MANILA, Philippines — Olympians Carlos Edriel Yulo and Ernest John “EJ” Obiena will receive cash incentives from the local government of Manila for their achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Mayor Hany Lacuna Pangan announced on Tuesday.
Gymnastics athlete Carlos Yulo, who won two gold medals on two consecutive days, will receive 1 million pesos for each gold medal he won, for a total of 2 million pesos in prize money.

“The City Government of Manila will award Carlos Yulo with one million pesos for each gold medal he won, totalling two million pesos (P2 million). This is our way of honoring his talent, dedication and immense contributions to Philippine sports,” Lacuna Pangan said in a statement.
“Nakaukit na siya sa kasaisayang dalawan gintong medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. “Ang kanyang nakakabiribu na performance, karangalang in floor exercise at vault event, ay nagdara, saya sa rungsod, sa buong bangsa at maynila,” Lacuna Pangan added.
(His feat is already in the history books as he won two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His exceptional performances in floor exercise and vault have brought great pride and joy to the city of Manila and the entire country.)
Yulo is also expected to receive a cash bonus worth at least P29 million, besides a condominium worth P32 million and other incentives.
Meanwhile, EJ Obiena, who placed fourth in the pole vault final, will receive P500,000.
“Natatanging performance kinikilala, pamaharaan, lungsod, maynila, kanyang, pagsumikap, bibigyan siyang peso 500,000 (P500,000) bilang pasasalamat sa kanyang tiyaga,” the statement read.
(The City of Manila will recognize his dedicated efforts and award him P500,000 as a token of appreciation for his perseverance and exemplary performance.)

Mayor Lacuna Pangan further added, “Ang paglarakbay at mga tagumpay ni EJ ay patulloy na nagbibigay inspiration sa maraming batang atleta sa mainila at sabuong bangsa.”

The Manila mayor also praised the two athletes, saying their “dedication, discipline and community sports will always be a source of pride for the City of Manila.”
Yulo and Obiena, who are from Manila, are also looking forward to the grand heroes’ parade.
