“If I didn’t go to the debates, they would say, ‘Oh, Trump isn’t going to the debates.’ They still say that. I mean, now I say, why should I go to the debates? I’m leading the polls. And everybody knows her and everybody knows me,” the former president said.
The Harris campaign blasted Trump for not agreeing to debate so far, and once again, Trump has dodged, squirmed and made excuses about why he’s scared to face Kamala Harris on the debate stage, his rivals said.
Harris’ campaign has argued that Trump, who previously said he would debate “anytime, anywhere,” is backtracking on his promise to do so. “It’s no wonder why.”
According to the NABJ, the last time Trump was asked tough questions at the NABJ, the interview “derailed” seconds after it began and was abruptly stopped by his team, resulting in a “disaster.”
Harris’ campaign argued that despite being given another chance to back up his words with actions, Trump seemed unable to muster the courage to face tough questions and his opponents on the debate stage. “Donald Trump needs to show his manliness. He has no problem spreading lies and hateful drivel at rallies and in interviews with right-wing commentators, but he’s apparently too scared to do it on stage opposite the Vice President of the United States,” said Cedric Richmond, co-chair of Harris’ presidential campaign.
“He’s just talking, he needs to put some action and, as Vice President Harris said earlier this week, he should tell her face to face on September 10th. She’ll be waiting to see if he shows up,” Richmond said.
