Who said NASA scientists and engineers don’t know how to have fun?!
The wickedly smart people at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, hold an annual pumpkin carving contest where brilliant minds concoct all sorts of strange and interesting works of art using fresh, seasonal orange squash. , offers some really great work.
This special judging event is designed to not only celebrate the holiday of Halloween, but also the anniversary of the founding of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which was first opened by researchers at the California Institute of Technology on October 31, 1936.
“What do you get when mechanical engineers accustomed to building unique spacecraft turn to pumpkins? JPL’s annual pumpkin carving contest!” the lab wrote in the paper. instagram account.
Witness the crazy creativity of these unique pumpkins in the gallery below. Featuring a creepy floating pumpkin teapot pouring liquid into a pumpkin cup, a cute baby hippo pumpkin named “Boo Deng”, a dedicated engineer concentrating on wiring sophisticated circuit board components, a giant pumpkin, and more is. Each participant or team was given an opportunity to use an orange vegetable as a starting point on JPL’s patio to saw, drill, carve, slice, dice, paint, scoop, and scrape pumpkins to create characters, dioramas, and spaceships. You will only be given one hour. Mechanical and electronic add-ons can be preassembled.
This is a fun activity we look forward to each year because it gives the talented people at JPL an opportunity to unleash their imaginations.
Once complete, the incredible pumpkin creations will be on display as scientists, engineers, and technicians admire the ingenuity and inspiration that goes into each piece. The final winners are not listed at this time, but we will update our readers once they are announced.
