This is a public call for bids in 2025: Initiatives reviving Caribbean art. Here we describe grants for Barbados-based Caribbean-based artists, ranging from recent visual arts alumni to established visual artists. Fresh milk art platformI’m partnering again National Cultural Foundation (NCF) and additional support Pantalea Foundation and Clara Lionel FoundationI’m excited to start the second edition of Bid: Caribbean Art Revitalization Initiative.
The spirit of this program is focused on generosity, faith and care. Fresh milk has always had an unwavering belief in the talent and potential of artists in the region, and as an artist-driven space, we are familiar with the various challenges that come with maintaining practice. These 19 (19) unlimited grants are awarded to eligible creatives who can use the appropriate funds. Creating new works, obtaining materials, research and development, designing new programs, designing existing programs, pursuing further research, preparing or producing exhibitions, participating in artist residencies, or general living expenses. This gentle gesture means appreciation for the recipient’s commitment to Caribbean art and culture.
In addition to financial support, each successful grantee’s work is widely promoted through fresh milk and local and local networks of NCF, through featured pages on our website, extensive social media coverage, and interviews with recipients, discussing their practices. In this way, we hope to strengthen our network of artists and contribute further to the public archives of community sense and Caribbean creativity.
Fresh milk I am interested in supporting experimental contemporary visual arts and curatorial and research-based practices exploring structure, content and expanded exhibition approaches in new ways. Grants fall into the following categories:
Six grants worth $1,500.00 each. This will be awarded below:
- Three recent visual arts graduates based in Barbados.
- Three recent visual arts graduates based in the Caribbean.
Qualification requirements:
- The artist must have completed a BFA or equivalent degree Within the past 6 years (2020-2025);
- The artist must be present Living and Practice in the Caribbean;
- It can extend to artists’ works Discipline/media of contemporary visual art practice (painting, drawing, prints, photography, mixed media, sculpture, installation, video, new media, experimental audiovisual art, performance art, interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary);
- Artists need to demonstrate a High-level work The level of their experience and Continuous development of their practice.
Five grants worth $2,500.00 each. This will be awarded below:
- Two Barbados-based visual artists.
- Three emerging visual artists based in the Caribbean.
Qualification requirements:
- The artist must have lived and practiced in the Caribbean. 7-12 years;
- It can extend to artists’ works Discipline/media of contemporary visual art practice (painting, drawing, prints, photography, mixed media, sculpture, installation, video, new media, experimental audiovisual art, performance art, interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary);
- Artists need to demonstrate a High-level work and Professional efforts (Participation in exhibitions, residences, workshops, programming, etc.) Based on the level of experience.
Four grants worth $3,500.00 each. This will be awarded below:
- Two Barbados-based mid-career visual artists.
- Two mid-career visual artists based in the Caribbean.
Qualification requirements:
- The artist must have lived and practiced in the Caribbean. 13 – 19 years;
- It can extend to artists’ works Discipline/media of contemporary visual art practice (painting, drawing, prints, photography, mixed media, sculpture, installation, video, new media, experimental audiovisual art, performance art, interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary);
- Artists need to demonstrate a High-level work and Professional efforts (Participation in exhibitions, residences, workshops, programming, etc.) Based on the level of experience.
Two grants worth $7,500.00 each. This will be awarded below:
- He founded a visual artist based in Barbados.
- One of the Caribbean-based visual artists.
Qualification requirements:
- The artist must have lived and practiced in the Caribbean. At least 20 years;
- It can extend to artists’ works Discipline/media of contemporary visual art practice (Painting, drawing, prints, photography, mixed media, sculpture, installation, video, new media, experimental audiovisual art, performance art, interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary).
- Artists need to demonstrate a High-level work and Professional efforts (participation in exhibitions, residences, workshops, programming, etc.) In line with their long and influential careers [. . .]
