National media is currently engaged in one of their favourite entertainments regarding political coverage. They are trying to take the results of local elections and project them nationwide.
If Zoran Mamdani wins Andrew Cuomo in the NYC Democratic mayoral primary, there is one clear lesson about the state of the Democratic Party and what their voters want, but the NYC race was an example of a pattern that the founding Democrats continue to repeat.
Andrew Cuomo was a retread full of badly damaged scandals, backed by special benefits and PAC money. No one seems excited to vote for Cuomo or the former governor.
At just 33 years old, Mamdani has a young, fresh voice, and her ideas are different.
He’s all Democrat voters are trying to tell the party what they want.
Why does Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) portray such a large crowd to fight the Oligarchy rally? These crowds are primarily made up of Democrats and they are showing up as they realize they are not going to cut it in the same old way in the emergency moments the country is currently finding.
2028 will be the first presidential primary that will not feature Clinton, Obama and Biden at the top of the ticket.
One of the most common statements from Democrats is that they want a fresh voice and change.
The sentiment from party voters is more than a response to Trump. It’s more visceral.
The Democrats lost the 2024 presidential election as their presentations and messages became old. Kamala Harris had brought an explosion of energy and freshness to the campaign, but by October, the same elite, consulting classes and party facilities had bottled her, and Vice President Harris quickly gave her about 20 minutes of speech every day, and by Election Day the sparks had gone.
New York is not all representatives of the United States. It’s a unique place of its own, unique, so trying to project too many national lessons from Zoran Mamdani’s victory is a fool’s effort, but since the 2024 election ended, Democrats have revealed what they want.
DNC donations have fallen considerably. The DNC itself is in the midst of the chaos where members of the democratic establishment were expelled, and a subtle version of the efforts to expel establishment is unfolded. The DNC is not a Democrat. The job of the DNC is to win elections. that’s it.
If Democrats want to win again, they need to listen to their voters. It doesn’t matter whether the candidate is a moderate Democrat or a progressive Democrat. What matters is that Democrats are new faces, new voices that are bold and willing to fight.
Whether they are elites, candidates or consultants, the same tired facility face is not going to accomplish that.
One lesson from Zohran Mamdani’s campaign is that Democrats are tired of establishing and they want change.
