This groundbreaking collaboration focuses on establishing and growing a vibrant AI ecosystem in Barbados, nurturing talent, fostering innovation and unlocking new employment opportunities for the Barbadoian AI sector.
The initiative includes a set of AI challenges, community building activities and educational events designed to provide Barbadians with world-class AI skills and knowledge. Additionally, the program will focus on creating pathways for employment in rapidly growing areas of data science and artificial intelligence.
The project will be launched on Saturday, April 26th at the University of the West Indies along with local AI hackathons, bringing together government officials, academic leaders, industry experts and aspiring AI practitioners for networking, practical learning and professional development.
Minister of Industrial Innovation, Science and Technology Jonathan Reed emphasized the importance of this initiative. “Artificial intelligence is transforming economies around the world. Barbados must be at the forefront of this revolution. Our partnership with Zindi is a strategic step to equip young people with the skills and opportunities they need to promote innovation. We position our country as a leader in technology not only in the future, but in the Caribbean and around the world.”
