We would like to congratulate Yale University’s 2025 Wyndham Campbell Prize winner, Anthony Vanni Capildeo (Trinidad and Tobago/Scottish) for his most enthusiastic congratulations. Eight authors of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama were awarded the International Award of the year in recognition of their literary achievements or promises. Other 2025 recipients are Rana Dasgupta, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Anne Enright, Matilda FeyiṣayọIbini, Sigrid Nunez, Patricia J. Williams and Roy Williams. Congratulations to all winners!
Poet Anthony Vanni Capildeo was born in Port, Spain, Trinidad, and lives in the UK. In every poem in each of nine collections and eight chapbooks, you will find sacred wonders and joys in your language. in often (2013) Nominal poetry, beauty is everywhere. The speaker said, “After all this hidden things, there is no surprise / it’s like something that’s translated. Capildeo’s poem has a sense of curiosity in Roaming. Think of the determined sensual leap, not the automatic movement from A to B. It is chosen by Guardian Among the best of recent poems, Capildeo’s latest collection of poetry; Polka dot scars (2024), the poet finds himself in conversation with his beloved, both in his life and death. With a timeless language ear, it is no surprise to learn that Capildeo studied old Scandinavians and translations while earning dphil at Oxford University. A recipient of many awards, including the Forward Award for Best Collection for Measurement of the Postal Service (2016) and the Judith E. Wilson Poetry Fellowship (2014), Capildeo is also a Fellow of the Royal Literature Society. They are currently professors and writers at York University.
