The House of Black has been the dominant faction in AEW since its inception. This group won the Trios Championship and terrorized the locker room. However, things don’t seem to be looking great for the group, especially with rumors surfacing that one of the members could be leaving AEW.
Malachi Black is the leader of the House of Black. He originally formed the group with Brody King and Buddy Matthews, and later added Julia Hart to the group. Initially, the group found success with the company, but the last year has left fans wanting more. Due to lackluster booking, fans believed Malachi Black would be leaving after losing to Adam Cole on the November 6th episode of Dynamite.
However, Black denied those rumors and slammed fans who believed the false information. Although he denied those rumors, Black has not stepped into the ring since Full Gear 2024, which raised many eyebrows.
Brian Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter even reported that people within Tony Khan’s company believe he has been dropped from the promotion. So it’s entirely possible that AEW books an angle where Malachi Black gets attacked by his stablemates, thereby getting him wiped from television when he leaves the promotion. The basis for the attack may be that the group has achieved nothing in recent months under the Black regime and appears weak compared to other factions.
Buddy Matthews teases departure from House of Black after AEW Dynamite loss
Buddy Matthews has been a member of the House of Black since the beginning of his time in AEW. He has had some great matches during his tenure and is always seen as Black’s sidekick despite his great skills.
This week on Dynamite, Buddy Matthews faced Will Ospreay but fell short. After the match, Ospreay cut a promo, referencing Malachi Black and saying that Buddy and King don’t have to follow the leader. After Dynamite aired, Matthews cut an exclusive promo saying that Ospreay’s words fell on deaf ears.
“2024 was in the plans, 2025 is now and it’s coming. And I didn’t start 2025 the way I wanted, especially leading up to the Grand Slam in Australia next month. But for years, Will has never heard my name. And for years, I’ve been hearing Will’s words, tonight these names came together, and Will, even if you put a hiccup in my 2025, tonight I couldn’t hear your words.” Matthews said.
It will be interesting to see if this will be the beginning of the end for the House of Black.
