Lauryn Hill was scheduled to leave on tour in three days, so naturally the concert was canceled.
Longtime fans of Rollin’s were ecstatic for the chance to finally see LH and the Fugees in concert again.
They also prepared for the very real possibility that the show would be postponed or delayed, something they’d learned from Lauryn’s previous performance experiences.
However, their hopes seem to have been restored after she gave an epic performance at the 2024 BET Awards alongside her son YG Marley, Ice Spice and Tyra.
Only to be shattered again…
Lauryn Hill cancels Fugees 2024 tour three days before first show
Celebrating her iconic 1998 solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” and the group’s smash hit album two years earlier, “The Score,” Hill and the Fugees were scheduled to kick off the tour in Florida on August 9 and head to Europe on October 12.
However, on August 6th, ticket holders for all US shows received an email informing them that the shows had been cancelled.
Ticket holders posted screenshots of messages they received from Live Nation that simply said, “Your event has been canceled. Refunds will be sent to your account shortly.”
Naturally, fans were quick to express their outrage on social media.
“Buying Lauryn Hill tickets is like investing in a Ponzi scheme,” one critic wrote. X.
“Lauryn Hill, what happened?” asked another disappointed fan. news.
Why Lauryn Hill canceled the Fugees reunion concert
As you may recall, Hill was forced to cancel several concerts in November 2023 due to vocal cord strain. At the time, she said the symptoms were “severe” and that it was “not safe or sustainable” for her to continue.
But her performance at the BET Awards has fans hoping these shows will continue in the future.
Now, for the third consecutive year, the group, reunited with Lauryn, has canceled some, if not all, tour dates.
Whether that’s down to Lauryn’s vocal cords or some other reason remains to be seen, but what’s clear is that if they want to tour again, they’re going to need to seriously flatter the fans they’ve disappointed.
“I love Lauryn Hill and would love to see her and the Fugees live,” one fan wrote. X.
“But right now, given what we know, if you’re spending money on a concert ticket, don’t expect to be able to see the performance in person.”
Tour Dates Cancelled: Is There Still Hope?
While all US dates have been canceled, tickets are still on sale for the band’s international tour, which begins in Manchester, England on October 12 and ends in Amsterdam on October 22.
It is unclear whether these shows will follow the same path as the US tour, or if the European shows will remain on the calendar.
