What we do in the shadows returns for its sixth and final season on October 21. FX’s hit vampire comedy looks set to end on a high note.
According to showrunner Paul Sims, Entertainment Weekly“We had a lot of discussions about how to handle that, but the main thing we all agreed on was that we didn’t want the final season to be ‘super special’ and serious. We just focused on making it funny. I’ve finished editing three episodes and I think this is one of the best seasons yet. But who wouldn’t say that in a conversation like this?”
According to FX’s press release, “After a very brief stint as a full vampire, Guillermo is re-evaluating his life. Who is he but a familiar who will do anything to please his master, hoping to one day be transformed into a vampire? Meanwhile, the vampires are re-evaluating theirs too. When their former roommate reemerges from a 50-year slumber, they realize how little they’ve accomplished in half a century: not a single goal accomplished, not a single dream pursued, not a single new world conquered (except their own street and part of Ashley Street).”
In the sixth and final season of the Emmy-nominated comedy, Nando, Nadja, Laszlo, Colin and Guillermo get jobs, visit New Hampshire, go to a human dinner party, celebrate the Baron and summon a demon — all while trying to find their place and purpose in this crazy, troubled world.
Workforce? Apparently Guillermo leaves the mansion, gets a job in an office, and starts working in the workforce, followed by Naja and Nandor. As Sims reveals in EW’s article, “Naja has always wanted to spend more time with humans and learn more about the human way of life, and by ‘helping’ Guillermo get a new job in a normal workplace, she’s kind of living her own life.” Working Girl I fantasize about working in an office, dressing the way I imagine someone in an office would, and making small talk the way a person would.”
In the next episode, Nando will star in a parody of John Boorman. rescueAccording to Sims, “There are two episodes that pay homage to some of our favourite films from the 1970s. I won’t say what one of them is, but Nandru disappears and goes up the river and causes trouble. The vampires are sent on a mission to rescue Nandru before he causes more trouble for the vampire organisation. So, that’s all for now.”
Upcoming episodes will see Laszlo hypnotize his housemates into becoming his slaves, while Colin creates his own friend/familiar. Sims also teased the arrival of Laszlo’s ghost father, played by a currently unnamed actor. “In past seasons, we’ve placed too much emphasis on people who’ve played vampires. Our main goal this season was to use some of our favorite, interesting people that we’ve been wanting to use for five years,” Sims explained. “One of those actors will be playing Laszlo’s father, or rather, the ghost of Laszlo’s father. This is one of our favorite guest stars of all time.”
Finally, Nandermo fans are guaranteed some kind of closure before the series ends, with Sims stating, “For me, Nandermo has been going on for six seasons. Their love is so deep and so strong. It doesn’t have to end with a porn scene like some people on the internet want it to.”
