Universal’s attempt to revive monster movies began in 2017 with mummy Hits of 2020 Invisible man. I hope Werewolf will be another highlight, but after seeing the first trailer I was a little worried, with a January release date and the trailer giving me the feeling that it could be a disaster.
The new film is a remake of the 1941 Lon Chaney Jr. film. Werewolf The film will be produced by Blumhouse and distributed by Universal. Little has been revealed about the plot of the film, but it centers on a family that is terrorized by a werewolf. It stars Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Sam Yeager and Matilda Firth.
I’m okay Werewolf It’s a hidden gem, but I didn’t have high hopes for it after watching the trailer.
First signs Werewolf One reason this movie may disappoint is that it has a release date of January 17, 2025. January has historically been a bad time to release movies, and it’s well known as the month when studios abandon movies they’re not particularly confident about. Even if a movie ends up being great, a January release could result in a poor box office performance and it could go unnoticed.
The trailer and description seem terribly ordinary compared to the 1941 version. Werewolf.
I’m okay Werewolf It’s a buried gem, but the trailer didn’t set me off: the only plot details revealed in the trailer beyond the initial exposition are that the father of the central family becomes a werewolf. The trailer is pretty generic, mostly consisting of menacing shots of the cast and partially blurred shots of the werewolf.

Werewolf Appearance Werewolf After seeing the trailer, this is my biggest concern. The trailer doesn’t show the full monster, but it does show what appears to be a mostly human-like monster. In one scene, the monster crashes through a car windshield, a hairy but otherwise human arm is visible. In another scene, a regular man appears to move like a wolf, which is a disappointing depiction of the monster.
The trailer and description seem terribly ordinary compared to the 1941 version. Werewolf. The original film had gothic grandeur and a tragic love story that made for gripping drama and memorable settings. None of that is apparent in the trailer for the new version, which comes across as a straightforward, unremarkable monster movie.
I sincerely hope I’m wrong Werewolf It’s a much better movie than it looks in the trailer.
I also Werewolf They picked the wrong director to bring Universal’s classic Werewolf into the modern era. Leigh Whannell has proven he can give a modern twist to a classic Universal film. Invisible Man, But that film was a much more natural fit with the tone and aesthetic of his previous films. Upgrade The only supernatural horror movie he’s experienced is “Insidious.” This is a series that exudes a creeping sense of dread that’s quite different from the primal horror required for a werewolf movie.
I sincerely hope I’m wrong Werewolf This movie is much better than the trailer makes it look. Blumhouse is a company that makes great horror movies, but unfortunately I think there is a lack of good werewolf movies. But for now I am skeptical. Despite my many concerns, I will check this movie out when it comes out on January 17th next year.
