The Sony CES 2025 keynote is just around the corner. You can watch and follow the live coverage here. The Afeela electric vehicle was a big part of Sony’s 2023 and 2024 CES press conferences, and we expect that to continue this year, appearing at Sony’s event (and subsequent press conferences) as well. Already confirmed. This represents a change for Sony, a mainstay at CES. The company has been in the consumer electronics space for decades, best known for the next-generation PlayStation console and Alpha camera, as well as Walkman portables and Trinitron TVs.

What to expect at Sony’s CES 2025 press conference

Afeela is the first product from Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between the Japanese electronics and transportation giant. After a surprise announcement at CES 2023, Sony’s CES reporters revealed additional details about the EV’s LiDAR-massive sensor array and AI-enhanced cabin technology (the latter with help from Microsoft) at CES 2024. Waypoint — pre-ordered in 2025 ahead of a 2026 release — will remain in place, but we’re curious to know which one is better. What’s great about Afeela’s concept car is that it really shines when it hits real-world streets.

Of course, Afeela isn’t always the only one in Las Vegas. It is expected that Sony will also take time to discuss its imaging, gaming, or movie studio divisions. And with any luck, we’ll get more information about the company’s XR headset, which was unveiled at the 2024 show but never seen again. CES 2025 would be the perfect place to show off major updates to a potential Apple Vision Pro competitor.

Preview of Gemini in Google Home products

In case you missed it, Google also shared plans to integrate Gemini AI into its smart home platform, including devices like Nest Audio, Nest Hub, and Nest Camera. Specifically, Gemini will be built into the assistant on these devices, so conversations with your digital helper will feel more natural. Our reporter Amy Skolheim previewed what this will look like today at Google’s booth. Here are her quick takeaways:

“Probably the most impressive trick I saw was the missing cookie case. The rep asked the Nest Hub, ‘OK Google, what happened to the cookies on the counter?’ “On Dec. 12, the dog jumped on the counter and looked at the cookies,” the assistant narrated the video as the dog entered the kitchen, traced the cookies and ran away.1:29 p.m. Unfortunately, there were no dogs in the demonstration kitchen, so this is of course a pre-recorded clip. ”

Stern Pinball, like multiple other conventions across the industry, has been a mainstay of CES for years, bringing new themed machines each year. In the lead-up to CES 2025, the Engadget team was thrilled to learn that their product is a loving homage to the Dungeons and Dragons franchise, celebrating its 50th anniversary. This machine focuses on Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Tyrant, And Nathan Ingraham describes what caught his eye:

“What caught my eye was the fact that as long as you use Stern’s Insider Connected app, you can choose a character and level them up over time. Track your games and more. Get top scores and more (scan the QR code to ‘log in’ from the app). But in Dungeons & Dragons, you can actually improve your character over time and save your game progress when you first start the game. , select a character Stern specifically mentions that the new “PinSave” system allows you to save a character’s experience points, inventory items, and game campaign progress across multiple games.

Roborock’s newest robot vacuum sucks up dirty socks

We were already intrigued by Roborock’s CES 2025 service description, but the video taken by Carissa Bell deepens the experience. The Saros Z70 robovac also has a built-in arm that can be folded to pick up items on the floor or store them away. Will this save relationships within the family and make people happy? From what Carissa can see, the robotic arm at least seems to be working, so they just need to work on communicating.

You must update your privacy settings to view this content. Click here and, “Content and Social Media Partners” Set it to do so.

    Carissa adds:

“Before you can use it, you must activate the arm through the Roborock app, where you can also configure what kinds of objects it can interact with and where to place them. Rosey the Robot That’s not to say, the Saros Z70 has the potential to be much easier to clean up, and it’s more than just a prototype, and Roborock plans to make it available for purchase later this year.

Will.i.am continues to appear at CES

It wouldn’t be CES without some celebrity announcements. Those of us who have been covering this event for a while are familiar with will.i.am’s commitment to developing successful high-tech products. Who can forget the PULS bracelet, which was released at the beginning of the smartwatch and wearable craze?Anyway, will.i.am continues to make its presence felt at conferences, this time with LG. It’s through collaboration. In fact, just before CES 2025 began, the company appointed the musician as “Experiential Architect” to collaborate on the xboom audio product line.

This week Billy Steele was able to check out the LG xboom in person, including three speakers. Grab is the smallest of them, but Billy thought:

“I was pleasantly surprised by how much bass the xboom Grab was able to rake out during the demo. Punchy highs and solid mids were well-reproduced with great detail. It seemed a bit muffled to me, but I only had a quick listen so I don’t need a full review.” Another surprising thing is that the xboom Grab was only at 50% volume, an almost unpleasant level of noise in the room. is to generate sound. ”

By the way, there were some things I saw at CES Unveiled last night that I wanted to try but avoided for hygiene and personal comfort reasons. For example, a company called Kirin had a product called “Salt Spoon” that uses electricity to convey umami flavor, and a large number of people gathered at their booth. Disposable spoons were provided for people to use and I stood in line many times to try it, but I never got to taste it. However, according to what I asked various people at the booth, they seemed to have a strong salty taste. This week I’m going to hunt down giraffes and make some salty spoon time.

While CES was in full swing, there was some interesting news outside of Las Vegas. For example, Apple announced that it plans to release an update “in the coming weeks” that will make it clearer that notification summaries are generated by AI. For example, if a future incident occurs where Apple Intelligence misrepresents an alert from a news organization’s app, people will be able to more easily understand that it was Apple Intelligence (rather than, say, the BBC).) It creates a summary sentence.

Now that Samsung’s announcement is over, next on today’s list of notable press conferences is Sony, which will be held at 5pm Pacific time (about 2 hours later if my math is correct). Of course, some companies, like Zeekr, have events in between. CES is a great place to learn about companies you’ve never heard of.
