Warner Bros. is using Christmas as an opportunity to shuffle several release dates into next year. The most notable change is that the release date of Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel has been moved from October 2, 2026 to October 2, 2026. October 1, 2027. Production isn’t scheduled to begin until late summer, and given the visual effects-heavy sequel to this blockbuster, a fall 2026 theatrical release is still likely. Reeves’ film will also be shown on IMAX.

Ironically, Warner Bros. had already reserved the first weekend of October 2027 for DC titles.

Reeves’ “The Batman” became the first post-COVID-19 box office hit after Warner Bros. adopted a “Max” date release plan. The film grossed $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide. It was followed by a Max spin-off series, The Penguin, which became the third most-watched debut season on HBO or Max worldwide, behind House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. It’s the season.

The untitled Alejandro González Iñárritu film starring Tom Cruise is scheduled for October 2, 2026, the previously announced release date of the Batman sequel. The film will also be shown in Imax and is the only major studio title scheduled for wide release this weekend. Also starring Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed, this legendary film tells the story of the world’s most powerful man who believes he is the savior of humanity. The film depicts him going on a desperate mission to prove that he is the one who will lead the apocalypse that he instigates that will wipe out all life on Earth. ”

Warner Bros. remains the October opening weekend domestic box office record holder with 2019’s Joker opening with $96.2 million.
