Nagb writes: “The national exhibition, held every two years, highlights the best of Bahamian art and provides the pulsation of our social landscape. This year’s theme invites artists to imagine not only spaces of void, but one of the ways of possibilities, transformation and new existence.
Join the opening night to celebrate the work of 21 artists living in the Bahamas: Douglas Barkey, Delton Barrett, Jonik Beadle, Jenna Chaplin, Jeremy Delacie, Sonia Farmer, Nell Songray, Marina Gottlievesals, Amani Hepburn, Kennett Hethrop, Alan Jones, Jordannan Jones, Joe Morasco, Edrin Simonett, Laurie Touchel, Eleanor Whiteley, Averia Wright, and Remero Wright. ”
explanation: Neleven: To the Boyd Ask the artist to explore new ways through the lens of the Caribbean futurist. This kind of imagination is already embedded in the Bahamian identity. Almost 100 years after the arrival of the Spaniards, the islands existed in a relative state of emptiness, as they destroyed the indigenous Lucaya population. Today, most people living on these islands have come down from those who traveled to this blank, and like many Caribbean countries, our culture has evolved through the intersection of diverse people and cultures that have settled here throughout our history.
Voids can be thought of as vast spaces that exist everywhere. In physics, a void is the space between filaments (galaxy-like structures), the liminal space that connects everything. This idea of blank reflects the Caribbean experience. The Caribbean experience forces us to constantly define and redefine ourselves. Then, Boyd is the perfect space for the birth of new ideas, creations, and ways of life.
