Senior police official Ayub Achakzai told the AP news agency that the attack took place at night in the town of Qusakhail, with the assailants setting at least 10 vehicles on fire before fleeing.
The killing highlighted the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where separatist and militant activity continues to plague violence and insecurity.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack as “barbaric” and promised that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Separatist groups in Balochistan have a history of targeting workers in eastern Punjab, a province plagued by a long-running insurgency, and seeking to drive them out of the province.
Past attacks have often been blamed on the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army and other groups seeking independence from the central government in Islamabad. Islamic extremists also have a presence in the province.
