Current strains of avian flu are considered a low risk to the public, but those who regularly come into contact with infected animals and contaminated raw pet food face higher risks.
“This is a difficult situation. We love pets and it’s devastating when they get sick,” Dr Zac Turner, a veterinarian at WSDA, said in a news release. “If your cat is showing symptoms, consult your vet as soon as possible.”
