Former President Donald Trump (who is once again officially the Republican presidential nominee) is no longer banned from the streaming platform Twitch.

Trump was banned indefinitely after the attempted attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. His ban was quietly lifted on Friday after a CrowdStrike outage took down the entire online infrastructure. Why was Trump allowed back? After this week’s Republican National Convention, he officially became a presidential candidate, and Twitch deemed it newsworthy enough to let him back.
“We have reinstated former President Trump’s Twitch channel,” a Twitch spokesperson said. The Verge“We believe there’s value in hearing directly from the presidential candidate, if possible. Mr. Trump is now the official Republican candidate for president of the United States.”

Trump did it But he once again found himself in trouble on Twitch. Intention The company’s usual community guidelines must be followed, and the former president has proven time and again that adhering to such guidelines is a difficult task.
“We continue to enforce our Community Guidelines and take necessary enforcement action when we find violations of our rules,” a Twitch spokesperson said. “Twitch does not have a ‘celebrity policy,’ so all channels are equally subject to our guidelines, regardless of whether they belong to a celebrity.”
You’d be forgiven for thinking Twitch has already taken this step, as many other social media sites have already allowed Trump back: YouTube and Elon Musk’s X have lifted bans, and Meta recently lifted the strict suspensions it had previously applied to Trump’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
