Twitch is gaining more Tiktoks with vertical game streaming. Additionally, “2K” (1440p) video allows you to view that League of Legends stream at a higher resolution. The ability to rewind the stream has also arrived. CEO Dan Clancy made the announcement on Twitchcon Europe on Saturday.
Portrait mode streaming makes it a little easier to watch gameplay on your phone. Previously, Twitch only supported clip and IRL stream directions. Clips are short highlights that authors can share after the stream is finished. “Real Life” content shows daily activities rather than gameplay.
However, some screens work much better on landscape diagrams. Fortunately, Twitch also offers dual format modes. Creators can live vertically and horizontally at once. You can see the best version for your device. The company will begin testing “on a few channels” this summer. We will expand access later this year.
Twitch’s 1440p stream is a welcome one. (Who doesn’t like videos that look sharper?) In the backend, we use a new HEVC codec that produces better images with lower bitrates. The platform’s enhanced broadcast technology also automatically adjusts the viewer’s resolution.
1440p streaming will be rolled out to all partners and affiliates today. However, since it is an open beta version, creators may need to wait for access.
Finally, Twitch has an unwind function. If you miss a portion of the stream, you can return the scrub to catch up with what you missed. That feature isn’t available here either. Twitch will be testing this summer with a “small audience.”
