President Donald Trump spoke on separate phone calls on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelenki, who then showed that a ceasefire might ultimately be within reach.
Trump praised Putin’s appeal on Prussin Social on Monday afternoon, as Putin did not show peace talks in Istanbul while Trump was in the Middle East.
“I just completed my two-hour call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I think it worked very well,” Trump wrote.
Trump has been pushing hard since taking office to end the fight, but often said the war began because Russia felt encouraged to strike while former President Joe Biden was in office, but both countries still seemed far from any kind of deal. Trump said they will eventually start working towards a ceasefire in his true social post.
“Russia and Ukraine will soon begin negotiations towards a ceasefire and, more importantly, the end of the war. The terms will be negotiated between the parties as much as possible, as they know the details of the negotiations that no one else notices,” Trump wrote.
