Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback of all time, was mercilessly booed at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the Indy 500 on Sunday.
Colts fans, haven’t time passed enough?
Brady was 16-4 against the Colts throughout his career, including a 4-1 record against Indianapolis in the postseason. During the Payton Manning era, the Colts were unable to pass Brady’s New England Patriots in the 2003 AFC Championship Game and the 2004 AFC division. Indy’s only playoff victory over Brady took place in the 2007 AFC Championship Game. Manning’s Colts won the Super Bowl. They got redemption, but obviously the fans never forgot.
But those days are long. They’re done. It’s been more than a decade since the Patriots and Colts met in the NFL playoffs.
Still, fans have not forgotten Brady because of his longevity and domination.
The Patriots are finishing their rebuild along with quarterback Drake May and new head coach Mike Vrabel. The Colts have been experimenting with quarterbacks since Manning left for the Denver Broncos. This includes the carousel on the bridge and now running with Andrew Luck, with Anthony Richardson finished.
Alex Paulow Winning his first indy 500 on Sundaywill be the first Spanish driver to win the event. The history of sports has been created. Elsewhere in Indianapolis, the Pacers dropped Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the New York Knicks on Sunday evening. Ironically, Pacer is always 0-4 in games played on the same day as the Indy 500.
But online? Everyone is still talking about Brady.
The NFL is King. However, racing fans are no joke.
Fox was the ultimate troll move as he ran through Brady in the brand’s fireplace for coverage of one of his many rival cities, Race. He also took part in a ceremonial first lap with Jimmy Johnson before the race. Why do Indiana fans expect a different reaction?
Brady wandered around the booing, smiling and waving at the crowd who hated him so much.
Manning and Brady both carve out successful broadcasting careers. They remained sincerely for many years. However, the chorus of Sunday booing to NFL legends shows that despite having the Lombardi Trophy in their case, Colts fans still need more time to heal.
