Joseph Shabbatson and Dawn Richard – “The Sad of a Wounded Heart”
Dawn Richard and Toronto saxophonist Joseph Shabasson pay tribute to SADE with their new co-single, “Breaked Hearted Sade.” Combining Sade’s classic song, “No Ordinary Love” with “The Big Day” and Shabason’s “Brokened Hearted Kota,” the resulting track has a fractured yet gentle beauty. “Back in the fall, when I was on tour with Dawn and Spencer [Zahn]will sound check with “The Wounded Kota,” Shabason said in a statement. It worked very seamlessly so we made it part of the show every night. After the tour ended we knew we had to record it. In February, Dawn sent me her vocals and I repositioned and remixed the original songs and the arrangement worked. The final result is a fun rethinking of both Sado’s song sung by Dawn and what “The Injured Kota” is.
