Threads is testing the option for users to set a 24-hour expiration date for their posts, after which the post and all replies will disappear, story-style. The feature has been tested among a group of users since it was first discovered by a developer earlier this summer. This is very similar to Twitter’s pre-X Fleets, but this ephemeral format may save users the trouble of habitually deleting posts.
This comes a few months after Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that Threads was , an optional feature that lets users choose a date for when they want their posts to be hidden from their feed. There is no auto-archiving feature yet, but such a feature has not yet been rolled out widely. Meta launched thread auto-archiving in early August and recently made it available to users, especially those with large follower counts, to track the performance of their accounts. Meta said it will also soon introduce the option to schedule posts.
