Thomas Friedman: “What happened in the Oval Office on Friday – The obviously planned ambush of Ukrainian President Volodymie Zelensky by President Trump and Vice President JD Vance has never happened in the country’s nearly 250 years of history. In a massive war in Europe, the president has become apparent as an invader of invaders against attackers, dictators and invitations to freedom.
“Do you want an analogy? Imagine when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to the White House this month, Trump and Vance said that the war with Hamas was too long, and that too many lives were lost, and that it was time for the people of America and Israel to make a deal with Hamas invaders.
“Russia went to Ukraine on February 24, 2022, so what Hamas did to Israel on October 7, 2023 – surprising invasions, murders and sexual violence to involve destruction in other countries and their societies.”
Peter Baker: “In the past decades, at least the President has never engaged in such a scathing attack of rage on foreign leaders visiting an oval office.”
