US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that there are only two genders in the United States, male and female, and that men are not allowed to participate in women’s sports.
Days after taking office for his second term, President Trump spoke via video conference at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting here, saying that transgender surgeries, which have become a pandemic, are unlikely to happen in the future.
“I have made it official policy in the United States that there are only two genders: male and female. Men will not participate in women’s sports,” she said.
President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday rolling back protections for transgender people and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the federal government. Both executive orders are in line with President Trump’s campaign promises.
One of the executive orders states that the federal government recognizes only two genders: male and female. This definition is based on whether you are born with an egg or sperm, not chromosomes.
Prisons and shelters for migrants and rape victims are to be segregated by gender, as defined in the order. Additionally, federal taxpayer money could not be used to fund “transition services.”
The order would also block requirements for transgender people to be referred to by their gender-appropriate pronouns in workplaces and government facilities.
