The Dallas Wings will be looking to parlay two of their most exciting wins of the season into a playoff push when they host the rising Minnesota Lynx in Arlington, Texas, on Friday.
The Wings (8-22) are looking for their season-best third win after beating two-time defending league champion Las Vegas, 93-90, on Tuesday. Satou Sabari led the Dallas team in the win with 28 points, helping the Wings overcome ace A’ja Wilson’s 42 points.
Tuesday’s win came after Dallas stormed back from a 19-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Los Angeles on Sunday.
Dallas trailed by one with 46.5 seconds left in Tuesday’s game but got the win on late free throws from Sabally and Arike Ogunbowale. Natasha Howard scored 24 points and Ogunbowale added 20 for Dallas, while Teela McCowan grabbed 17 rebounds.
The Wings are in 11th place in the 12-team league, three games behind eighth-place Chicago and three spots outside the playoff line.
“We were in the semifinals last year for a reason, and I don’t want people to forget that,” Sabally said after Tuesday’s game.
The Lynx (23-8) have won seven straight games, are second in the league standings (2.5 games behind New York) and have already clinched a playoff spot with nine games remaining.
Minnesota’s most recent win was an 89-76 victory at Phoenix on Wednesday, when Kayla McBride led the team with 19 points, Courtney Williams had 16, Napheesa Collier had 12 points and eight rebounds and Myisha Hines-Allen added 11 points off the bench.
The Lynx, who led the WNBA with 39.2 percent 3-point shooting, made 11 3-pointers and have won all six games by double figures since the league resumed after the All-Star and Olympic break.
“It feels good, but we’re playing for something bigger than just a winning streak,” McBride said after Wednesday’s win. “We wanted to play our hardest for our guys coming back from the Olympics, and we’re going to be ready to play every night. We’re playing for each other.”
The Lynx have won two of the first three games against Dallas this season, with the Wings winning 94-88 in their most recent meeting on June 27 in Arlington.
