Right-wing media is falsely telling viewers that crime is surging under Biden, even as violent crime has declined significantly.
“The report has been almost completely ignored by right-wing media, which has promoted false stories of a crime surge under President Joe Biden,” CNN reported, noting that the US recorded “its steepest annual decline in homicides in decades.”
But right-wing media outlets aren’t reporting good news about violent crime in the run-up to the election. Instead, they’re spreading lies to hide the facts from their audiences.
CNN Fox News noted that it “mentioned the FBI data only once during Monday’s broadcast…dedicating 28 seconds to the subject,” and that at the time, “informed viewers that ‘critics say the report is inaccurate because it doesn’t include major cities,'” a false claim made by Elon Musk and others on the Trump campaign team. This conspiracy of silence regarding crime data was consistent across right-wing media, with Newsmax and OAN TV remaining silent, as well as nearly every other right-wing website except for Newsmax.

He rejected the plea deal and is scheduled to go to trial in January.

That’s why conservatives are burying the good news that violent crime has fallen under President Biden.Meanwhile, they ignore that the Republican leader was convicted by a jury of 34 felonies. When people get outraged at this infuriating hypocrisy, they miss the point that a populist strongman like Trump invokes the instrument of power known as “rule by decree” and that the law is what they say it is and nothing more.
The dark and dystopian worldview that is circulated on one side of the political spectrum is wildly at odds with reality: the economy is recovering surprisingly well and the stock market is hitting new highs, but you would never know it within the epistemological insularity of the right-wing media.
The pattern mimics the blatant manipulation tactics of Russian media, which is full of disinformation meant to blow smoke around would-be dictators.
