The New York Mets acquired outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in exchange for right-handed pitcher Eric Olze.
Siri, 29, is expected to fill the Mets’ center field position as Harrison Bader is not expected to return to the club.
Siri spent parts of the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, playing in a career-high 130 games in 2024 and starting 116 games in center field. Last season, he hit .187 with 18 home runs, 47 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.
During his four-year major league career with the Houston Astros (2021-22) and Rays (2022-24), Siri batted .210 with 54 home runs, 136 RBIs and 43 stolen bases in 356 games.
Orze, 27, was drafted by the Mets in the fifth round of the 2020 draft and made his major league debut in 2024. He went 0-1 in his two games out of the bullpen, giving up four runs in 1 2/3 innings. ERA 21.60.
