Trump requested a withdrawal and apologies via lawyers for the New York Times and CNN for the story that reports the Iranian bombing failed, but the Times said no.
In a letter to the Times, the president’s personal lawyer said that the newspaper article had hurt Trump’s reputation and demanded that news organizations “retract and apologise” the film, which is described as “false,” “dead and harmed” and “not patriotic.”
In a response Thursday, the Times rejected Trump’s request, noting that Trump administration officials later confirmed the existence of a report issued by the Defense Intelligence Reporting Agency and its findings. “There’s no need to retract,” wrote the thesis lawyer David McCrow in the letter.
“The apology won’t come close,” he added. “We’ve made the most of our abilities to tell the truth. We’ll continue to do so.”
The New York Times deserves no praise for doing what was once a naked response to an unfounded retraction and demand for an apology. There is no reason for NYT and CNN to apologise. Trump has yet to provide evidence that the reported narrative is wrong.
It’s a predictable event. The New York Times spent leaning coverage on Donald Trump on its 2024 campaign. Despite the approval of editor Harris. They employ several reporters with close ties to the Trump world, and now those who thought corporate media would save their businesses are trying to destroy them.
Donald Trump doesn’t believe in the free press. Trump uses the threat of lawsuits to silence the media from reporting information that Americans don’t know about.
CNN also refuses to withdraw and apologize, but they also harmed the freedom of the press by bending their knees to Trump.
I don’t think I have any sympathy for CNN or NYT. They are a big part of why the country is in the current chaos, and some would suggest that they deserve any outcome they deserve to do to help Trump.
