Scientists have warned that “dangerous climate collapse” arrived after the warmest recorded in January in January, which has been recorded worldwide, and opposed expectations that 2025 might be cooler than the previous year.

According to Copernicus, the average temperature last month was 13.23c, 0.79c from the 1991-2020 average, 1.75C for January and 1.75C for pre-industrial levels, according to Copernicus, the average last month.

January 2025 was the 18th month of the last 19 months, with global average water temperatures exceeding pre-industrial levels by more than 1.5c.

It comes against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s new president pledging to end his former leader, Joe Biden’s “climate extremism” policy. This exceeds the 1.5c threshold, first agreed in the 2015 Paris Agreement, despite 2024 being the hottest and record-setting in the world.

Bill McGuire, professor emeritus of geophysics and climate risks at UCL, called the data “amazing and frankly scary.”

He continues: “I don’t think there’s any doubt that a dangerous, all-compromising climate has arrived based on the Valencia floods and the apocalyptic LA wildfires.

“Even so, emissions continue to rise, but fossil fuel companies are looking to expand their operations. Grimm won’t begin to explain our outlook.”

Scientists hoped that the emergence of Lanina, a climate pattern of cooling conditions in the tropical Pacific, would slow record-breaking global warming after the recent El Nino phenomenon led to surface water warming .

Climate scientist Professor Chris Briary said Independence: “I don’t know why Lanina wasn’t that effective. That surprised me and the community. I’ll try and understand the research model now, but I have no answers for a few months early.”

He added:

The biggest driver of this recorded temperature remains the accumulation of greenhouse gases from the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas.

The global reliance on fossil fuels shows little indication to disappoint Trump when he began his second term with the promise of “drills, babies, drills.”

Within days of his inauguration he declared a national energy emergency, focusing on fossil fuel production in the country.

When he signed an executive order entitled “Setting America No. 1 in the International Environmental Agreement,” the president said:

“The US does not interfere with our own industry, but China contaminates it with immunity,” he added.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said this undermines global efforts to curb climate change.

Ben Goloff, Senior Climate Movement at the Center for Biodiversity, added to a shared statement Independence: “Backing from Paris shows just how threatening Trump is by the recent global compact, moving away from fossil fuels.

“World leaders are on the right track to unload us from the coal, oil and gas that are disrupting the climate, wreaking havoc on LA and North Carolina and the world. Trump has sanded his head. It is buried within, but it will be the national leader who will close his eyes on the climate crisis and lead us to a lively future.”

The US experienced freeze temperatures on average throughout the month, but Los Angeles was destroyed by one of the worst wildfires in history.

At least 11,000 homes were destroyed during the city’s Eton and Palisade fires. LA Times.

Professor Stephen Door, director of the Wildfire Research Center at Swansea University, told the BBC: Over the past few decades, the majority have driven climate change. ”

Scientists warned that climate change has created grass and shrubs that make fires more vulnerable due to the state of “whiplash.”

Dan Swain, a graduate of the University of California in LA, said he conducted the survey:

“First, we will significantly increase the growth of the flammable grass and brushes in the months leading up to the fire season, then dry to very high levels with extreme dryness and warmth.”

The extreme weather has also been seen as Storm Eowin brought “once in a generation” Hurricane Force winds to the UK, cancelling more than 1,000 flights and leaving 600,000 homes and businesses unpowered businesses. I did.

While the UK may be experiencing a cool January on average, a strategic climate lead at the European Medium-Distance Weather Centre explains: ”

Professor Adam Scaife of Met Office added:

“We expect that 2025 will likely bring global temperatures slightly cooler, but we expect this year to be one of the warmest years on record.”
