The framework has launched new versions of its 12-inch and 13-inch laptops, as well as a new desktop computer today. All have repairable and upgradeable options.
Here is a summary of what the company has announced. Founder of Nirav Patel FrameworkPlease note that the last live event held by the company was in March 2023, when two versions of Framework 16 and Framework Laptop 13 were introduced. The past two years.
Patel started the company with the belief that Consumer Electronics is repairable, upgradeable and should last for a long time. The idea was very controversial at the time, and the company was greeted with skepticism.
“Five years from now, we are on a fast path to achieving our mission of re-creating consumer electronics,” he said at a press conference. “We want to continue to support and expand the ecosystem around our current products. We are ready to bring this mission and product philosophy to more categories, one category at a time. It’s going to be a great day and we all on the framework team can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been working on.”
Framework Laptop 13 with AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series CPU
Framework We have announced the new AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series Powered Framework Laptop 13.
These bring color options for new processors, Wi-Fi 7, improved thermal systems, next-generation keyboards, new bezels and expansion cards. On the outside it looks (almost) the same. This means we can continue to offer our longevity promise by keeping the Framework Laptop 13 fully upgradeable and repairable in a thin, light 13.5-inch form factor.
This means that Framework 13 owners can pick up new modules and upgrade their already owned computers to the latest technology in 2021. The company also maintains all the improvements of its last generation with a 61WH battery and an optional 2.8K 120Hz 13.5-inch 3:2 matte display.
The biggest change is AMD’s new Ryzen AI 300 series processor, bringing a big jump in performance. These use the Zen 5 CPU core along with Radeon RDNA 3.5 graphics. In addition to the 6-core Ryzen 5- and 8-core Ryzen 7 configuration, the framework also offers the top-end Ryzen 9 HX 370 option, bringing up to 5.1GHz boost and 12 CPU cores with 16 GPU cores.
This means you can play modern game titles with amazing frame rates. Historically, this level of graphics performance would have required a separate GPU. And it’s amazing to see it now on a super-aportable and efficient laptop. The processor also has 50 TOPS NPUs, which means an increasing number of open source AI toolkits compatible with Copilot+ and ROCM.
In addition to its performance, the company has kept the system quiet and cool with an improved thermal system. This utilizes one large 10mm heat pipe and Honeywell’s amazing PTM7958 phase change thermal interface material.
The mainboard also supports two slots of DDR5-5600 memory that can be upgraded to 96GB, and one PCIE 4 M.2 2280 storage slot that can be upgraded to 8TB. The framework has used AMD’s RZ717 module to increase connectivity to Wi-Fi 7. With the four expansion card slots, both the rear USB4 and the front 2 handle the USB 3.2 Plus Display Port, providing up to four simultaneous display outputs.

With keyboards, the company maintains 1.5mm key travel and works with keyboard partner Lite-On to create a new key structure (such as SpaceBar and Shift) with wider keys (such as SpaceBar and Shift) that reduce buzz when the speaker cranks up and Shift.
For pre-loaded pre-built configurations in Windows 11, Framework updated the keyboard artwork using the Copilot key. Customers can bring their own memory, storage and operating systems. These come with an alternative set of keyboard artwork options without the Windows logo for those using Linux and BSD. The company continues its Linux prioritization with official support from Ubuntu and Fedora, as well as community support from a wider distribution set.
There are also options for customising colors such as a translucent bezel, and the company has also added semi-translucent purple, green and black. It also comes with a semi-transparent USB-C expansion card.
The AMD Ryzen AI 300 series starts at $899 for the DIY edition and $1,099 for the pre-built system. New mainboards can be reserved starting at $449. This is the 7th iteration of Framework Laptop 13. To make the framework more accessible to the laptop 13, the framework holds its previous generation AMD Ryzen 7040 series system in production, starting at a new discounted price of $749. All of these products are shipped to all 32 countries today and can be pre-ordered or ordered.
Framework Desktop

Today, the framework introduced Framework Desktop, a 4.5L Mini-ITX desktop powered by AMD’s new Ryzen AI Max processor.
Pre-orders are currently open and will have their first shipment in the third quarter of 2025. When AMD shared Ryzen AI Max with us, the framework jumped at the opportunity to use it. It has up to 16 CPU cores with 5.1GHz boost clock, discrete level Radeon 8060S graphics, and supports up to 128GB of integrated LPDDR5X.
This allows for over 1440p games with the heaviest titles, big creative and workstation workloads, and true local AI use cases. The framework shifted the roadmap to create space a year ago. In the desktop form factor, the framework unlocks all bits of performance with a sustained power of 120W and a 140W boost, keeping you quiet and cool.
You may still be wondering why does a framework need to build a desktop? Isn’t your desktop already modular and upgradeable? they are.
In fact, desktop PC Ethos is part of what inspired Framework Laptop from the start. Build, upgrade, repair and personalize to the limits of your imagination (and budget, desk space) and share amazing pieces with all other true followers. The framework wants to make this space as accessible as possible by building a small, simple, incredibly powerful and customizable desktop at the same time. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the culture of circulating PC and PC games directly.

With that in mind, the framework utilized all the major PC standards possible. The Ryzen AI Max-powered mainboard of the framework desktop is a standard MINI-ITX with a wide set including ATX headers, PCIE X4 slots and a wide range of rear I/Os (2x USB4, 2X Displayport, HDMI, and 5GBit Ethernet) It’s the form factor.
You can drop it into your case if you wish. The framework developed a semi-custom 400W power supply with FSP in a standard flex ATX form factor. The company also used a standard 120mm CPU fan with a thermal system developed in collaboration with Cooler Master and Noctua. You can also bring your own fans if you wish. The framework enabled two PCIE NVME M.2 2280 slots on the RZ717 Wi-Fi module with up to 16TB of storage and Wi-Fi 7.
The framework desktop also guides the spirit of your PC to customise. The framework can be brought to a LAN party (or just a living room) with black and semi-transparent side panels, RGB fans, and optional carrying handles attached. The framework also designed the front panel for the case, consisting of 21 color customizable tiles. Additionally, Open is procuring designs, allowing you to print your own 3D. The framework also took over the expansion card system from the framework’s laptop, with two slots on the front of the framework desktop allowing for customisation of the front port.
The LPDDR5X is soldered to enable the enormous 256GB/s memory bandwidth provided by Ryzen AI Max. The framework worked with AMD to explore ways to get around this, but ultimately decided that landing modular memory at high throughput on a 256-bit memory bus was technically unfeasible I did. Because memory cannot be upgraded, the framework is intended to make memory pricing more reasonable than you would find in other brands.
The top-end Ryzen AI Max+ 395 configuration with 128GB of memory starts at just $1,999 USD. This is great for gaming, but it’s a truly wild value proposition for AI workloads. Local AI inference has been significantly limited so far by the limited memory capacity and high prices of consumer and workstation graphics cards.
The framework’s desktop allows you to run huge, capable models such as the Llama 3.3 70b Q6 at real-time conversation speeds on your desk. USB4 and 5GBIT Ethernet networking allow you to connect multiple systems or mainboards to run even larger models, such as the full DeepSeek R1 671b.
The base framework’s desktop is even lower, with an 8-core Ryzen AI Max 385 configuration, starting at $1,099 with 32GB of memory.
All systems are DIY editions. This means you can choose to bring your own storage and operating system. The framework claims this is the easiest PC ever built, and the framework will publish a step-by-step guide and video to get you there.
Framework Desktop supports both Windows 11 and popular Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora, as well as games-focused OSs like Bazzite and Playtron. Customers can also pre-order the mainboard on its own today, starting at $799.
Framework 12 Laptop

The framework shared an early preview of the new Framework Laptop 12, a durable, repairable, upgradeable 12.2-inch touchscreen convertible notebook.
This computer is the purest manifestation of our vision and product philosophy in the framework, and in many ways I have created products that I have created. The framework builds products to fix what is considered a broken industry, and there are few categories that represent home appliance problems as much as entry-level laptops.
According to the framework, these machines tend to be yankees, locked down, disposable, inadequate and boring machines. Embarrassingly, these are products that PC brands sell brands for use by students and young people all over the world. Instead, the framework considers these to be people who need thoughtfully designed long-term computers the most.
The framework designed this framework 12 laptop from the start, taking away all the upgradeability and life expectancy of the framework laptop 13, making it a smaller, lower cost, more flexible and more colorful form factor .
The company presents it in five colors, each with an optional color matching stylus. The two-tone exterior is not just about the show. The framework overdone the TPU on rigid PC/ABS plastic with inner metal structure for robustness.
If you break it, it is also the easiest product to repair, the company said. The framework took all the designs for repairability learning from frameworks 13 and 16 and pushed further with framework laptop 12.
The framework also designed this laptop to be extraordinarily powerful for its class. Instead of using a typical small-core processor, I used the 13th Gen Intel core processor for the I3 and I5 variants.
The framework has enabled support for up to 48GB of DDR5-5200, 2TB of NVME storage, and Wi-Fi 6E. All of these are modular and upgradeable. The framework also customized the 1920×1200 display to provide over 400 NIT brightness along with touch and stylus support. As always, the framework supports both Windows 11 and Linux.
The company said it had students in mind when it began developing the product two years ago. And I discovered that it repeated through the prototype and that all the adults who tried it wanted it too. The framework will share specifications and pricing details as the company approaches the launch of the Framework Laptop 12. The framework opens pre-orders in April and will ship in mid-2025.
