IRV Gotti – The famous record executive who produced hit songs by artists such as JA Rule, Ashanti and Jennifer Lopez has passed away.
He was only 54 years old.

Preliminary reports are light in detail, and the cause of Gotti’s death is currently unknown.
However, THR points out that the founder of Murder Inc. suffered a stroke last year. There were few updates on his condition in the following months.
Shortly after news of Gotti’s passing was released, moguls and artists competed across the hip-hop landscape in honor of the fallen legend.
“Def Jam lost one of the most creative soldiers that were hip-hop,” said former Def Jam Exec and current YouTube Music Czar Lyor Cohen (via THR).
“When we bent our knees, he brought a fever and saved our asses. He comes from a very tight, beautiful family in Queens and it’s an honor to know him. And it’s a privilege. IRV, you’ll miss it.”
An epic career
After getting off to a start with Defjam, he produced late 90’s hits, such as Jay Z’s “Com Can I Live.”
Murder Inc. – later known as Simply The Inc. – helped define the hip-hop scene of the early 2000s.
Gotti’s signature sound – a melodic hook paired with the poems of Street Harding rap – has produced numerous hits on the label and its artists’ roster.
JA Rule and Jennifer Lopez duet – “Always take time”, “I’m a realm”, “Not interesting” and more successful Ashanti singles (“Silly”, “Rain”, “Come on the hook”) – Hip Hop’s It helped me cement Gotti’s position as one of the best producers.
According to IRV’s brother Chris Gotti, Inc. The label has sold over 30 million units and sold over $500 million.
In 2023, when he appeared on The Drink Champs Podcast, Gotti discussed his health issues, including his fight against diabetes.

“It’s ramping to black people,” he said at the time (via). New York Post) “What it does is it starts to make your body worse. No, [it’s not under control]. I was diagnosed with diabetes forever. It is genetic. My time [blood sugar] Too expensive, I’ll be shot [of insulin].

Irv Gotti was survived by three children.
