Earlier on Thursday, House Democrats Prime Minister Hakeem Jeffries told CNN he believes the United States has been in a constitutional crisis since January 20th.
Selina Stewart, CEO of the Women Voters League, and Diana Wynn, president of the Women Voters League, have issued statements on the crisis.
It has been 87 days since the Trump administration began. From the incredible disregard for Congressional authority and government checks and balance to the latest lawsuit of openly ignoring the Supreme Court order to bring Kilmer Abrego Garcia back to his home, one thing is abundantly clear. Our country is in a constitutional crisis.
We have to fight back. That’s why women voters leagues are launching strong new initiatives and launching unity and rising 8.5.
Unite and Rise 8.5 will engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters between 2026 and November to protect and preserve democratic institutions.
The fundamental principles that have maintained our democracy – checks and balance, the rule of law, free and fair elections – are under direct and enduring threats. At this extraordinary moment, we cannot continue our business as usual. No matter who we vote for in 2024, all Americans need to come together, unite and fight back to save our democracy. We cannot afford to fail future generations.
The goal of this action is to mobilize 8.5 million voters in the 2026 election as Congressional Democrats currently lack the authority to stop Trump. The court has yet to show a willingness to be completely bored to stop the president, and Republicans are completely useless.
The movement to stop Trump will come from people, and that movement will include protests and mass mobilization of Americans appearing in polls. America is in a constitutional crisis, and the solution to stop Trump will come from the grassroots.
