Matt, 28, says, “While traveling to New York City to participate in the New York City Marathon, I realized that I had never told you the real reason I signed up.” Matt, 28, said: TikTok “During a quick side trip to New Zealand, I met a 70-year-old man who told me he was training for a triathlon.”
Matt noted that the man said he started training to “spend time with his two adult sons,” who were also competing in triathlons. But Matt recalled the man saying that working out “has become a way for him to prove what he can do at any age.”
“Throughout life, we face challenges, but persevering through these challenges shows us who we really are,” Matt said. “This year has not been easy for me, but overcoming challenges like the New York City Marathon has given me the momentum to carry that energy into other aspects of my life.”

Matt completed the race on Sunday, November 3rd in 3 hours, 50 minutes and 44 seconds.
Matt and Jen dated on and off after their relationship first began in 2020, four years before she was announced as Season 21’s Bachelorette. While Jen was appearing on the ABC reality series, Matt traveled to New Zealand to win her back.

“[When] We were the first to really try things out and we were completely different people. We weren’t the adults we are today,” he told Jen on an August episode. “And I feel like over time, as we’ve grown up, I’ve realized that this bond has gotten stronger. And I’ve realized how much you mean to me. I’d appreciate it, but I’m not ready to let it go.”

Eventually, Jen sent Matt packing and he broke the news of his departure to the remaining suitors before leaving the show.
“I came here completely of my own free will, but she let me know that my future was in this room,” he said. “She’s confident that you guys can offer something that I can’t.
