THDC India on Tuesday said it has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra government to develop six pumped storage power projects with a total capacity of 6,790 MW and investment of over Rs 33,600 crore.
The agreement, signed with the Water Resources Department, aims to assist developers in carrying out necessary surveys and studies, preparing detailed project reports and establishing projects in a timely manner, whilst adhering to central and state government regulations, policies and schemes.
The MoU provides an overview of the six proposed projects – Malshej Ghat Pumped Storage Project (700 MW), Aruna Pumped Storage Project (1,950 MW), Kalari Pumped Storage Project (1,250 MW), Humballi-Birmani Pumped Storage Project (1,000 MW), Aruna-Kollam Pumped Storage Project (1,200 MW) and Molawadi-Majalewadi Pumped Storage Project (690 MW).
As part of the collaboration, the Maharashtra government, upon receipt of an application from THDC India, will facilitate the process of allocation of water required for the project, including both initial water make-up and annual consumption requirements.
Instead, THDC will focus on preparing detailed project reports for each project and submitting them to both the Central Electricity Authority and the State Water Resources Board for approval.
