Mellencamp publicly shared news of the brain tumor discovery via an Instagram post in February. She revealed that she had been suffering from a “severe, debilitating headache” for weeks, and a day ago, “the pain was unbearable and required hospitalization.”
After getting a CT scan and an MRI, Mellencamp explained, “The doctor has discovered multiple tumors in my brain and believes it has grown for at least six months.”
Mellencamp added that the two tumors will be “surgically removed” that day, and that “the remaining small tumors will be dealt with radiation at a later date.”
After undergoing surgery, Mellencamp shared that five more tumors were discovered a few weeks later.
“Update from today’s scan: I have three more tumors in my brain and two tumors in my lungs. These are all direct consequences of my melanoma,” she wrote in an Instagram post on March 6th.
Mellencamp explained at the time that he was trying to remove these and felt optimistic about the outcome.
